The Hungarian brand came out with Gypsy collection

Gypsy kollekcióval jött ki a magyar márka

Sugarbird guests in Sarlóspuszta witnessed an unusual fashion event. At the debut of their latest collection, everything was in the spirit of the Roma cult, as the Gypsy folk costume was on the table this time in the life of the Hungarian brand. The Sugarbird Gypsy collection was born with the collaboration of Hajdrik Lotti.

The name of Lotti Hajdrik may be familiar to many from her social media platforms, but the young beauty, who works as a manager and influencer, is now showing her talent as a guest designer on Sugarbird. The Gypsy collection, created with her participation, was a huge success at the private fashion show held recently. Sugarbird invited Mary Nótár, Margó Bódi, Szabina Tápai, Dorottya Németh, Franciska Farkas, Zsuzska Takács and Réka Nagy, among others, to model on the groundbreaking runway. There is no doubt that the finale dress took the show by storm, which was worn by none other than the designer of the Gypsy collection, Lotti Hajdrik.

“The Gypsy wedding dress consists of nearly 400 meters of tulle, which we sewed onto the skirt in the shape of a stylized rose and was complemented by a spectacular crown and jewelry. It was completed in record time and I think it was one of the highlights of the show.” - said Ádám Baranyi, who was, among other things, the designer of the closing dress worn by Lotti.

However, the event was not only an exciting catwalk experience. In addition to the collection's campaign photoshoot, live gypsy songs were performed, and guests could also sample bodags made by Margó Bódi and her daughter-in-law.

“This is a milestone in my life. I never thought that this dream of mine would actually come true. I remember when I first suggested to Hédi and his family that I would like to create a gypsy collection together with the Sugarbird brand. Even now, I find it hard to believe that our Gypsy collection was born and that it has been such a success. I think we have exceeded expectations, because while each piece is fashionable, the authentic gypsy patterns and lines have been preserved. Both the length of the skirts, the colors, the ruffles and the styles have really been designed and processed in a way that does not violate our culture. The Roma will certainly wear it with pride, but obviously the goal is that everyone else will also wear the Sugarbird Gypsy collection with pleasure and respect.” – said Lotti Hajdrik.

“This whole story started when Lotti approached us with her idea. It’s no secret that we have always been interested in the adaptation of different folk costumes, just look at our Kalotaszeg collection. We liked the suggestion and were happy to start brainstorming and designing with Lotti. We also asked our ethnographer friend Imre Harangozó for his opinion and help with the Gypsy collection. Imre touches on the culture of the Roma people so delicately, and he absolutely loves bringing different ethnic groups together.

It was nice that Lotti really wanted to realize this plan of hers, she really wanted to wear these pieces. A young, beautiful influencer who didn't insist on the collection remaining strictly authentic. It was different to start the collection like this, because I knew that Lotti was the soul and creator of the project. On the one hand, she has been wearing Sugarbird clothes for many years, so she knows exactly what we represent, she is absolutely the daughter of today. We could simply stay on the fashion line, which I always stick to. Lotti had a definite idea, both in terms of the clothes, as well as in terms of the campaign photography or even the fashion show. It was a great relief for me that she was so conscious. It's interesting that we immediately sensed the lifestyle line of the collection.I am almost certain that the style worn by Margó Bódi will be one of our most successful pieces, but it is clear that the final dress of the show, the spectacular wedding dress, will also be of interest to many. However, we will not be producing any more of this, this one will only be available under our soon-to-debut Couture menu item.

It is clearly an important milestone from an educational perspective that a new brand has now entered the life of Sugarbird, a Frida Kahlo, a Disney, a Warner Brothers or Coca-Cola has now been included in Gypsy, the adaptation of the Gypsy folk costume. I think that is exactly why we elevate each other to a worthy place. As Imre Harangozó said, we can consider it a mission that we are now educating ourselves with the means of fashion, thus bringing us closer to each other with Gypsy culture. Our motto has always been “More is More”, but it has become apparent that now the term Roma also gains meaning.

Our absolute goal with the collection is that it should not only be worn by Roma people, but, as in the case of our previously reviewed Kalotaszeg collection, by practically anyone who falls in love with the colors or styles. I think Sugarbird has found its place because of its consistency, as our clothes can be worn anywhere, on weekdays, but also at any event, function or festival.” – said Jagasics v. Csonka Hedvig, founder and owner of the Sugarbird brand.

Part of the Gypsy collection is now available in the Sugarbird Online Shop. (www.sugarbird.com)
